SACI Sculpture Students Visit Pietrasanta and Carrara, Italy

SACI sculpture students visit the famous sculpture towns of Pietrasanta and Carrara, Italy

Students in our intermediate/advanced sculpture class recently visited the breathtaking towns of Carrara and Pietrasanta, Italy, renowned for marble and bronze sculpture-making.

Each semester, sculpture instructor John Taylor takes students to these coastal towns to see large-scale sculpture-making firsthand, meet modern-day masters in the field, and visit the famous marble quarries where Michelangelo acquired materials for many of his renowned pieces. Students have the opportunity to select their own marble pieces to take back to Florence, with which they carve their final works!
