During these challenging times, Firenze Now!, a discussion series hosted by the British Institute of Florence, shines a light on the progress being made in the Florence area in diverse fields of research, study, and entrepreneurship, as well as the challenges the city still faces. The series brings together prominent members of the community to discuss these complex topics. SACI President Steven Brittan participated in this exciting dialogue during two discussion panels held in October, conversing with city and education leaders on the topic of education and innovation in post-Covid Florence.
The series was hosted by Simon Gammell at the British Institute and launched with Florence Mayor Dario Nardella.

For this discussion, the panelists spoke on the topic of The Future of Florence: Building a Knowledge Economy. Panelists included Marco del Panta, special adviser to the Mayor of Florence, Morgan Fiumi, Florentine American digital entrepreneur, Steven Brittan, President of SACI Florence, and Mario Curia, Board Member of CCIAA Firenze.
The event centered around the following questions:
- What are the key ingredients for a vibrant knowledge economy … and does Florence have them?
- What must be done to create the right environment for innovation and international entrepreneurship to flourish?
- How can we build a successful knowledge eco-system in Tuscany?

The panel experts debated the following key questions:
- How can Florence’s rich educational assets combine more effectively to support a knowledge economy?
- What can be done to build stronger research collaboration between the University of Florence and the international programs?
- How can the American programs integrate more successfully with the city?
SACI President Steven Brittan’s participation in the Firenze Now! series continues SACI’s strong tradition of involvement in city-wide dialogue on education, innovation, and the challenges facing Florence today, helping pave a path to a brighter future in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
