SACI NY Gallery Presents 2019 MFA Graduate Exhibition Series: Photography, Studio Art, Communication Design

The SACI New York Gallery presents the 2019 MFA Graduate Exhibition Series, selected works by graduates from the MFA in Photography, Studio Art, and Communication Design programs at SACI

A Meeting Point is the translation of Un Punto D’Incontro, the Italian title of SACI's 2019 MFA final exhibition in Florence, Italy. For the upcoming Graduate Exhibition Series in the SACI New York Gallery, we reflect on this title and revisit selected works by graduates of the MFA in Photography, MFA in Studio Art, and MFA in Communication Design programs at SACI. The exhibition series, on view from May 2019 to August 2019, signifies the artists' transition from their studies in Italy to the professional art world in New York and beyond.

For Bessonova, her work is about obfuscation, a seemingly nominal detail is used to represent a greater whole. She has changed her practice from larger, grandiose landscape work in the past towards more intimate details of scenes. In a way, her work is about revealing more through less.

Touma’s work follows a similar trajectory, but along a different path. She is digging underneath the flesh of humanity searching for answers about what unites us.

For Bosch, her challenge was how to identify a city as unique among the countless communities that exist using non-verbal means such as design. Bosch, similar to Touma, is attempting to drag out the details that lie beneath the surface.

As Bessonova hides, Touma and Bosch reveal. They are aiming for the same idea through different channels. The concept of what is and isn’t shown.

In addition to exhibiting these artworks from our MFA departments, we are excited to showcase our MA Art History students, who’ve written analyses on the three respective exhibiting artists.

Lina Bessonova’s photography exhibition, What We Know Nothing About, is a collection of radiant black and white darkroom prints that calls our attention to the fact that we can never truly know the layers of meanings that exist in everyday moments until these moments become memories. Come experience the intimacy of the ordinary and contemplate the meaningfulness of everyday experiences. What We Know Nothing About will make you fall in love with all that we take for granted.

On View: June 6, 2019 - June 28, 2019

Caline Touma's exhibition of drawing and paintings is an exploration of the human soul and spirit. A discovery of what it means to be human, not only in a physical sense, but the spiritual. What is below the physical exterior? Touma transcends beyond, to the inside. Whether it be in the quick, playful lines of her exquisitely complex graphite drawings or the animated qualities of her paintings, her work breathes life, as if it too has a living soul.

Well-known marketing campaigns such as I, Amsterdam have seen an increase in tourism for the city. Graphic designer Manuela Bosch displays her ability to unify her creative design and in-depth understanding of fluid identity to create a brand for her home city of Montevideo, Uruguay. The installation guides the viewer through the complex process of creating a design that captures the individuality of each citizen’s perception of his or her own city and encourages tourism while maintaining the heart of the city.
