SACI Digital Multimedia and Body Archives students exhibit final works at OnArt Gallery in Florence
An Idea of the Other, works by the students in the Body Archives course, considered the theme of the representation of the Other. Students visited the museum collections of the Università di Firenze and were in dialogue with experts in various scientific disciplines. Working around the theme of 'otherness' and attempting to define the 'other' in our time, the students developed artistic projects approaching the theme from various points of view. The works included video projection, objects, installation, photography as well as other media. Participants included Gabriel Akre, Nadika Naasz, Willa King, Izzy Hoskins, Nayla Tohme, Victor Restrepo, Kelli M. Perletti, Madisen Judge, and Tatjana Lightbourn.
An exhibition by students in the Digital Multimedia course also took place at OnArt Gallery, featuring video and sound installations around the theme of memory. After a semester of discussion and dialogue about memory, oblivion, and time, and an exploration of numerous contemporary artists, these works were created to confront the fragility of memory, its fragmentation, the relationship between memories and objects, and the way in which memories are formed. Participating students were Julianna Carl, Georgina Chiou, Emma Kapson, Christopher Norcross, Bronwyn Olstein, Taylor Taradash, Christopher Underhill.
MFA in Studio Art student Robin DeSantis also presented her performance piece A Casa, which she developed in collaboration with the artists from the art and therapy center Fili and Colori over several months. This exchange culminated in a live collaborative performance.
