Senior Designer at Penguin Random House, Elizabeth Capreol creates designs promoting books by renowned authors, Comic Con swag, and revered publications such as NPR, The New York Times Book Review, Entertainment Weekly, and Bookforum.
Elizabeth Capreol (SACI Spring 2016 Alumna) is a 24-year-old graphic designer currently living and working in New York City. The first time she heard of the job title “Graphic Designer” was while watching YouTube videos on how the mega-movie-franchise Harry Potter was made. MinaLima was her introduction to this world of magical possibilities.
Elizabeth made her start at Parsons The New School for Design. In 2016, she had the opportunity to study at SACI, where she learned screen printing, made life-long friends, and lost count of the number of Italian cities she got to visit. She couldn’t have gotten much luckier with her housing too; nearly every day was a photo opportunity with their windows opening up to none other than the Duomo a few feet away. Piazza Duomo 6 and Florence are forever a second home in her mind.
SACI was a much needed break from regular school life and re-energized her through to her Parsons graduation in 2017. She graduated with a BFA in Communication Design with High Honors and Departmental Honors, following up her screen printing skills gained at SACI with more practice in her senior thesis, in which she promoted female empowerment through comic superHERoes. In those last two years at school, Elizabeth had the opportunity to intern with Martha Stewart Weddings and The Knot. Post-graduation, she landed a dream first gig at Hearst working as an Art Assistant on the brand new Airbnbmag. There she worked permalance for the complete redesign of the magazine, and had the opportunity to work one-on-one with some of her favorite lettering artists and illustrators in the business.
In that same year, Elizabeth was hired as Designer at the esteemed worldwide publishing house Penguin Random House. Two years later at the age of 23, she became Senior Designer. She works at the group Knopf Doubleday where the team publishes the likes of Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, Kevin Kwan, and many more. Her favorite part of the job is animating many of the fabulous cover designs that land on her desk. She can be found snapping photos around New York City for social platforms, designing swag for San Diego and New York Comic Con, or whipping up layouts for Entertainment Weekly, Bookforum, and NPR. On occasion she has the task of taking over a full page or two in The New York Times Book Review.
