“Dipinti fuori dal carcere,” a Presentation of Restored Treasures from Porto Azzurro, Opens August 3rd

“Dipinti fuori dal carcere” or Paintings Out of Jail, a presentation of paintings restored by SACI students under the direction of SACI Conservation Area Head Dr. Roberta Lapucci, opens August 3rd at the Capella del Sacro Cuore in Porto Azzurro on Elba Island.

With the goal of safeguarding the artistic treasures of the Spanish patrimony of Porto Azzurro, damaged paintings were rescued from the inside of the San Giacomo al Forte Church. The paintings were then restored by SACI students led by Dr. Roberta Lapucci, who has successfully completed many restoration projects on Elba Island. On April 9, 2016, paintings at the mid-stage of restoration were exhibited in the SACI Gallery in Palazzo dei Cartelloni in the "Paintings Out of Jail" Symposium & SACI Gallery Exhibition highlighting the historical, technical, and conservation research related to the restoration.

Some of the restored works include “L’Assunzione di Maria,” “La Vergine tra i santi Francesco e Luigi di Francia,” “Madonna del rosario,” and “San Giacomo a cavallo,” the final painting to be restored.

The presentation will open on August 3rd at 7:30pm in the Cappella del Sacro Cuore di Maria in Porto Azzurro, marking an important cultural milestone for the town.
