As artists, we must learn to be rigorous observers, engaged not merely in the constant building and refining our technical foundations, but also in the continuous investigation of the world around us, forever reorienting ourselves both in relationship to art history and to the contemporary directions in art today. As a teacher I strive to spark a passion for the mastery of skills and for experimentation, as well as to incite the excitement that comes from becoming an informed participant in the art world, in whatever future form that may take for each student.
I believe in meeting each student at his or her level, establishing clear goals that allow space for different approaches to learning, and fostering an environment in which hard work comes as the natural result of shared enthusiasm and commitment to art-making.
