Remembering David Davidson

Dear SACI Community,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of our Dean, David Davidson. David passed away on Saturday morning leaving his wife, Susann, and sons, Julian and Nicolas.

David served as Dean and Vice President at SACI for seventeen years and was the backbone of our institution. David loved film and history of cinema stemming from the time he received his Ph.D. in Cinema Studies at NYU. He was dedicated to academia, and began his career in the US as Associate Dean and later as Vice President of Academic Affairs at the New York Academy of Art, followed by Assistant Dean at the University of Maryland University College in Germany before coming to SACI.

David dedicated his life, passion, and love to all of us at SACI, especially our faculty, staff, and students. Interspersed between his tireless work, meticulous attention to detail, and his love of books, we all enjoyed his wonderful wry sense of humor. David was instrumental in creating and developing SACI’s graduate programs and he brought academic excellence to our undergraduate programs. I cannot think of a more dependable and dedicated partner and colleague, confidant and friend. Most of all, he cared immensely for the people he worked with on a daily basis and for the thousands of students he counseled and mentored.

David will live on in our memories, and he will forever be a prominent force and presence at SACI. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

Steve Brittan, SACI President
