  • ARTS(B)301 Beginning Batik3

    Term: Fall, Spring, Late Spring, Summer

    Prerequisites: None

    These courses cover the techniques of wax resist, paste resist, silk painting, and the tied and shaped resist processes of Shibori. Projects are designed to instruct students in ways of controlling the image-making process by solving color and design problems through manipulation of resists and dye bath sequences. Emphasis is placed upon familiarizing students with dyes and introducing them to other fiber techniques for the finishing and embellishment of fabrics, such as quilting, sewing, beading, embroidery, etc.

  • ARTS(IB)301 Intermediate Batik3

    Term: Fall, Spring, Late Spring, Summer

    Prerequisites: Beginning Batik

    Intermediate Batik is a continuation in development of textile dyeing and painting techniques, designing skills, concepts and craftsmanship. Projects involve more complex ideas and hand skills.  At this level development of a theme, direction or style is encouraged. Challenges in projects of a more complex nature; more colors, more layers, larger scale, other dyeing techniques will be explored.

  • ARTS(AB)401 Advanced Batik4

    Term: Fall, Spring, Late Spring, Summer

    Prerequisites: Intermediate Batik

    At this level development of a theme, or concept is the objective. Students produce highly developed projects to be presented at the end of the semester. The project theme involves more complex ideas and textile skills. Challenges of a more complex nature; more colors, more layers, larger scale, other techniques or even mixed with other media, such as, sewing, embroidery, quilting, painting, textile sculpture, fashion, fashion accessories and  especially installations are explored.
