High Renaissance Field Trip to Bologna

Spring 2017

Saturday, April 8 ~ High Renaissance Field Trip to Bologna.

This trip to one of Italy's loveliest cities acquaints the student with early Michelangelo pieces in Bologna (S. Domenico) and with the Jacopo della Quercia sculptures at S. Petronio there which were very influential on him as a young artist. The major focus of the trip is Bolognese painting, especially that of the Carracci and their school; in the late 1500's the Carracci reformed painting and helped to create the style we know as early Baroque. Our visit will encompass a viewing of representative works of the High Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque periods in the city.
